Jayne Malfitano

Chair, Board of Governors

Sylvester

For Jayne Malfitano, the fight against cancer began as a family mission. Her father believed research was the only way forward. That belief led him to Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center many years ago. “Research is our hope,” Jayne says. “That’s what’s gonna give us better treatments, remission, and cures.” Her father’s vision wasn’t just about science – it was about creating a place where patients could feel peace in the midst of uncertainty. Today, that vision lives on in a center that has grown from one building to 10 satellites, serving communities with cutting-edge care.

Jayne’s commitment to Sylvester runs deep. She joined the board to continue her father’s legacy and has witnessed firsthand the power of partnership. The Dolphins Cancer Challenge has become an integral part of that story, raising over $100 million for research. “There are very few organizations that can say 100 percent of the money raised goes to research,” she explains. For Jayne, that impact is personal. She started by making peanut butter sandwiches for riders and now walks alongside survivors and families who share the values.

At the DCC, Jayne sees names written on backs, bells ringing, and crowds united by courage. “It’s a very emotional moment to see all those people together,” she says. Her dream for the future is simple yet profound. She hopes to see a sea of survivors ringing the bell, celebrating cures that once felt out of reach. Until then, Jayne stands with Sylvester and the DCC, driven by the same belief her father held: research will lead the way.

Research is our hope, that’s what’s gonna give us better treatments, remission, and cures.
